Decluttering with Intention to Create Our Ideal Life

The simple act of decluttering can have a profound effect when done with intention. But why must we complicate it when we’re simply decluttering to “organise” our lives?

It’s like cleaning dirty floors. We do it to keep our homes tidy.

When we declutter with a clear vision in mind (of how we want our life to look like in the future), the process is much clearer and straightforward.

We all declutter for many reasons; after all, we all live different lives. If you are a school leaver, your intention to declutter would probably be to remove all the school supplies you no longer need as you move on to become a full-time employee. Or you might decide to travel the world as a reward to finishing university. Each reason is as valid as the next one- as long as you’re mindful of the intentions behind them.

Keeping your vision in mind helps inform the decisions you’ll make when you decide which parts of yourself you’d like to keep and which ones you’d like to let go. Knowing what you want for yourself after this chapter in your life, becomes the picture of your next.

That’s the beauty of decluttering. You don’t have to focus on what you should remove but the attention should be on what you want to carry with you and, where to store them.

The purpose behind this reflects the principle behind the KonMari Method®—the step-by-step process created by a world-renowned tidying expert Marie Kondo. Her principle in choosing what stays with you is “what sparks joy”. If an item or an object no longer sparks joy for you, then it’s time to let it go with gratitude.

Decluttering can produce a meaningful impact when we take the time to understand and figure out what we want in life.

When we’re aware of the intention we’ve set in our mind, our vision comes to life. What a powerful thought!
