Setting Up The Kitchen: How Organising Can Ease Your Cooking

See how our organising solutions have transformed workspaces, homes, and lives with lasting results.

Three Easy Steps To Get Organised

“Ease of cleaning is the criterion for kitchen storage. The best way to do this is to have no clutter on your kitchen work tops. If you are in a kitchen that is easy to clean, you won’t mind removing things from cupboards.”

Marie Kondo

The kitchen is usually the hub of our home and therefore very busy. We have a few weeks now before Christmas so now is the best time to organise our kitchen to ensure a seamless and stress-free kitchen on Christmas day (well that may be a slight stretch).

With 3 weeks to go, I would advise organising one category each week.

Week one could be spent tidying your cooking tools- that is your electrical equipment, pots, pans, dishes etc. It is important to start discarding before storing otherwise you will rebound. Put similar items together and go through the joy check. Decide how many of each item you need and discard the rest. Store items from each category together and use containers where needed. Items you use regularly store within easy reach and those less frequently used, place on the higher shelves.

Week two is the perfect time to organise your food. The average family wastes £60 per month on wasted food, so this is the perfect chance to check expiry dates of food and wipe before returning to cupboard. You will know exactly what food you have and what you need to buy more of. This will avoid wasting food and ultimately save you money.

The final week can then be spent organising your implements for eating- crockery, cutlery, glassware for example. Bring out those items you have stored away for special occasions and, discover how good it feels to use dishes you love every day. Don’t save them for a special occasion. Cook with your “good” saucepan and use the tablecloth reserved for visitors.
